Why Teeth Cleanings are Essential?

A smile not only make you look attractive but also helps relax the mind by alleviating stress. A beautiful smile is a valuable social asset. It’s no surprise that people who don’t think they have an attractive smile are hesitant to do it. The majority of people who dislike their smiles are dissatisfied with their teeth. For a perfectly beautiful smile, a good oral health condition is also essential.

Good Oral Health Condition

Many people dread getting their teeth cleaned. Between the use of instruments, weird noises, and occasional jaw discomfort, it’s easy to understand their apprehension. But for most, teeth cleaning is simple and painless process.

What Is The Need For Dental Scaling?

Dental Scaling

The Dental Teeth Cleaning is medically termed as Scaling & Polishing.  Plaque is a normal occurrence on the surface of the teeth that affects everyone. This becomes a problem when food debris lingers on the teeth and bacteria reacts by producing a sticky substance that sticks to the teeth. This chemical will then irritate the gum lining of the teeth, resulting in inflammation & bleeding.

Plaque damages the gum line once it has built up on the tooth surface. When the gum line deteriorates, a periodontal pocket forms, which leads to an increase in plaque and calculus deposits.

Plaque would not be deposited on the tooth surface if brushing & flossing is done on a regular basis. However, once it has been deposited, a consultation with dental specialist are required for scaling.

Dental Health Problems Caused by Poor Oral Hygiene:

Poor Oral Hygiene

If an individual’s dental hygiene is impaired, inflammation of the gingival and periodontal tissues (tooth supporting structures) can occur, posing a number of concerns.

  • Gum recession
  • Bleeding Gums
  • Calculus & Tartar Build up
  • Bad Odour from mouth
  • Teeth sensitivity
  • Dental Cavity
  • Tooth mobility
  • Compromised chewing/biting
  • Restrictions for eating

What Is The Process Of  Teeth Cleaning?

Teeth Cleaning

Scaling and polishing are operations that are frequently performed during a prophylaxis visit to the dentist. Dental Scaling is a non-invasive process that removes dental plaque and calculus from the teeth. Teeth are further polished and smoothed with a slow-speed hand tool. These procedures are beneficial to most people, but they are especially beneficial to people who have periodontal disease.

Steps of Cleaning Teeth:

  1. Physical exam

A physical examination of your entire mouth is performed before the actual cleaning process begins.

A pair of mouth mirror & Periodontal Probe are used to examine for signs of gingivitis (inflamed gums) or other potential concerns around the teeth and gum.

  1. Removing plaque and tartar

A Dental Ultrasonic Scaler is used by the dentist to remove plaque and calculus from around your gum line and in between your teeth. You will hear a scraping sound during scaling, which is typical. The harder the calculus in your mouth, the longer it will take to clean the certain area.

  1. Polishing the teeth Surface

The dentist uses a low speed Dental handpiece with rubber cups or brush tips to polish the tooth surface after tartar removal.   It’s a perfect approach to get a thorough cleaning and eliminate any tartar that the scaler may have left behind.

  1. Rinsing

Next step is to rinse out the patient’s mouth with a fluid i.e. Fluoridated mouthwash to get rid of any debris.

Surprising Benefits of Scaling & Polishing:

  • No Halitosis / Bad Breath:

Many people suffer from halitosis, or bad breath. The culpability is frequently placed on the type of food consumed. Tartar build-up is frequently the cause, which results in infection and halitosis. Following the scaling process, it is important to clean the tongue along with the teeth, as germs can breed on the tongue.

  • Prevention of Dental Diseases

The good oral health condition also prevents many dental diseases like gingivitis, periodontitis, dental caries, pulpitis etc., giving you the confidence to smile without any worry.

  • Improve Overall Health:

Scaling on a regular basis aids in the promotion of general health. Cleaning your teeth on a regular basis will prevent tartar from forming on your teeth, lowering your risk of developing a variety of dental disorders. As a result, greater chewing of food equals better health.

Dental Ultrasonic Scaler:

Dental U6 Scaler

Dental Practitioners can use a piezon scaler, commonly known as ultrasonic scaler to gently eliminate plaque & calculus from the teeth, causing minimal or no damage to the teeth or roots.  Ultrasonic scalers use ultrasonic vibration to more extract calculus deposits from your teeth. They act mechanically by blasting calculus with high vibrational energy, making it simpler to remove. Unicorn Denmart offers a variety of dental scalers from Woodpecker, including the DTE V3, DTE D5, and U6 LED Scalers, which include upgraded technology to help dentists perform tooth scaling procedures more successfully.

Conclusion

Scaling your teeth is normally recommended every six months. However, this varies depending on the saliva. Saliva thickens as one gets older due to a decrease in water content. Tartar will form at the lower ends of the teeth as a result of this. As a result, dental consultations should be scheduled and executed twice a year to assess the health of teeth and prepare for additional procedures if necessary.

It was helpful when you said dental cleanings are being evolved with changing technologies to help you get through in minimal time. I’ve always been anxious at the dentist and being able to get through it quickly would be very helpful. Maybe I should see about some dentists that can do cleanings very well and also very quickly.
